Saturday started off as an early morning. The 15u team played at 8am (again, in Woodbury) so we were out of the house at 7. The morning was pretty uneventful- all our teams played some pretty easy teams. We went over to the 14u coach's house. (Tim) They lived a couple miles from the tournament sites and were nice enough to have us over twice on Saturday. They have a 3 year old and a newborn, so it's nice to be around other people with kids. The evening games were a little more difficult. I ended up taping Nick's team play again. They had to play the team that is rated number one in the upper Midwest. (They are from Iowa) Nick's team only lost by 2 and they could have tied it up when a player got fouled on a three-point shot at the buzzer. She missed two of the three free-throws, but the team was still happy about how well they did.
Sunday was another early morning, but we didn't have to be there until 9:15. We watched a little of the 14u game (they lost) and then Nick's team had to get ready for the re-match against the North Tartan Nike Elite team. Both teams were missing one of their best players, but that was fine. Nick's team was ahead by almost 10 with two minutes left in the game. His team decided to make it a nail biter and it was a four point game with one minute left. They played hard for the last minute and pulled out a win by two. They were so excited to have beaten the North Tartan team twice. It was fun to see everyone so excited. Aidan had decided to wear his "Tessa and Bethany" shirt and we got a picture of him and her after the game.
We had only a couple minutes between games and we ran to Jimmy John's to grab some sandwiches. We rushed back to the gym to watch the 14u lose. After that we watched the 11U win the championship and the 15U Elite win their age group championship. Overall, it was a good day. Aidan was excited that Andy let him have the trophy- he clutched it the whole way home. (It's now in his bedroom.)
