The Pigs

So, for those of you who don't know, Nick grew up on a pig farm. (Not kidding at all.) In middle and high school, he used to show pigs and compete in the State and County Fair pig shows. He still owns a part of the pigs that they raise to sell for show pigs every year. That is the background for this post.

Yesterday was a Saturday in June with out a basketball tournament. (These are rare at our house.) So, Nick decided that he wanted to see how the pigs were doing. Nick told Aidan back in April that he had saved some pigs for Aidan to show at the fair. (Though Aidan isn't old enough to show in the 4-H competition, anyone can show them in "Open show." Please keep in mind, if this information is slightly wrong; I just married into this and am trying to get all the rules, terms, etc down.) Aidan got to see his pigs yesterday- which he was really excited about.

I am so impressed by how quickly Aidan has taken to the pigs. When he first met them last year, he was holding a piglet and was terrified. By the time the fair came around, he was a pro at driving the pigs. (One lady even commented to her child that "those must be the pigs from his farm- he is so good with them." I didn't have the heart to tell her he lives in the suburbs and was just recently introduced to the farm.)

We speed home after seeing the pigs to make it to 5:15 church. After communion, Aidan was deep in prayer. Nick asked him what he was praying for and he answered, "For the pigs, that they don't die before the fair."
